Awesome self help book!! Mel Robbins book the 5 Second rule is another take on getting your shit together with many testimonials and great quotes. I saw her last year on ted talks and loved her approach to changing how your brain works and it really interested me so I picked up her book from the library. It was well done and I enjoyed reading how her 5 Second rule had changed so many people’s lives. I will say that I love listening to her live because it isn’t just what she says, it’s her delivery that hooked me. Over all I enjoyed it and recommend reading, but also if you get the chance watch her ted talk or her talk show. I love both. Until next time luv’s💖
2. AMINA reviews The 5 Second Rule
This is definitely a great one, its concept is very sipmle.
In this book, Mel Robbins explains the simple way of the 5 second rule and shares some stories of people who applied it and witnessed the change it brought. There’s no overwhelming motivation in here, the book only makes you face yourself and and admit that the only person standing in your way is you, not your condition, not your family or society, as human beings, we have that gift to ignore what’s happening around us if we want something so bad, even if it’s stupid or futile, but we always manage to find an excuse when it comes to achieve something we really long for. That’s what this book is about, stop lying to yourself and start doing what really matters for you.
3. MEL reviews The 5 Second Rule
I highly recommend the audiobook! It’s like Mel Robbins right beside you coaching you along! Can’t even tell she’s reading her book! I had read the book last year when it came out but didn’t get much out of it because my brother died about the same time. This book has been a one book intervention for my self-sabotage and procrastination. Go get the book. Don’t think about it. Don’t hesitate it. Let your new life of five second decision-making start today. 5… 4… 3… 2… 1…. Why are you still reading this! Buy the book already!

Life-changing Help & Happiness Even For a Senior
I am so glad my sister told me about Mel and “Let Them.” In looking that up I discovered “The 5 Second Rule.” I am a senior, and still it has been life-changing!! It brings help and happiness into many different aspects of my life, which I had given up hope of changing . Thank you!!
5. PROBYN BERRIDGE reviews The 5 Second Rule
The 5 Second Rule delivered on its promise
This book put everthing in perspective for me. Procrastination had become a pervasive habit that was becoming difficult to address despite my best intentions.
The 5 Second Rule really resonated with me, and even before finishing the book, I had started to apply the Rule in my life with success.
I am excited to see where it will take me and those that I recommend it to. This is truly a book for all ages.
6. MIKE reviews The 5 Second Rule
Very Inspiring Book
I made it a goal of mine to start reading a new book a month, just ten pages a day, again. I always wanted to read this book by Mel Robins after hearing her in a podcast on Impact Theory and how she was in a slump and climbed her way out of it. Very inspiring.
I really liked how practical this book was, yes there are some filler pages of testimonials and whatnot but the principle is clear. Your mind has about 5-second window before you start to over think things. This can include getting up in the morning, introducing yourself to others, speaking in a meeting etc. when you act within those 5 seconds you interrupt your brain from going into overthinking mode and you do what you always wanted to do. THIS IS SO POWERFUL.
I included in my review a screenshot of one of the pages that I found was really useful, which was what the impact of hitting the snooze button does to our brain from a scientific perspective. After applying the rocket ship launch method at wake, I can 100% attest to feeling less groggy and more in control of my day. 10/10 would recommend this book. It’s up there with Atomic Habits. 👌🏽
7. KIMBERLY A. BAUER reviews The 5 Second Rule
This book validates something I have been doing for a long time…
I loved this book. I purchased the audio version. This book is for anyone who lacks confidence, courage and suffers from self doubt. You can control your mind. Yes, it could be a blog or you could view the Ted talk, as some have said, but I like the details and the multiple applications she describes. Some people need reinforcement of these concepts. I plan to listen again. I was blessed, my parents taught me not to worry about things or what other people think and to do things even if you are afraid, because in the long run, it just won’t matter. You can’t control it, so let it go. If you were never taught these principles growing up, then this book is for you. This book validates something I have been doing for a long time, but now want to accelerate, especially the things I am passionate about. I have my own little mantras that have helped me get through difficult situations. For instance, I started getting panic attacks in my 30’s after starting a new job. I would be in meetings and would want to leave the room, but knew I couldn’t. I would say to myself, “I don’t have time for this.” over and over again. The attacks slowed and then stopped. Three days before we were to travel to Russia to pick up our twin toddlers, we found out I was pregnant. Freak out ensued!! How was I going to spend two weeks in Russia as a new parent with 2 two year olds who didn’t speak English? Whenever I would start to feel afraid, I would repeat over and over to myself, “I can’t do this but Jesus can.” And He did do it for me, but saying over and over help calm me. You can have a better life, too
8. MARCO reviews The 5 Second Rule
I highly recommend not reading this book!
Don’t read this book, listen to Mel Robbins read it. If you don’t you will miss out on one of the best presentations of a book ever. I listen to many books a year. This presentation is one of the top 5. Some authors should not read their own books. Mel is amazing. So much that I purchased her audio book, “ The High 5 Habit.” I highly recommend both books. She is a great motivational speaker. I listen to both books during my workouts and got a physical workout along with a mind workout. I will listen to these again.
9. E.B. DURRAN reviews The 5 Second Rule
It works if you work it… Life altering!
Mel really nailed this… I’ve read countless self-help and motivation books, I never would have thought something so seemingly simple would change things in my life this quickly. She’s right… motivation is crap, I rarely “feel” like doing what needs done. If anyone is on the fence about picking up this book… Just buy it, you won’t be disappointed!
10. JEN reviews The 5 Second Rule
Stop what you’re doing and read/listen to this book! It’s a game-changer. It’s paradigm-shifting. Yes, those are dramatic words, but it really is. I’m a therapist and a self-help junkie, so I’ve got a lot of things to compare it to. I’ve been using this technique and telling my clients about it – I’m just amazed at how much it’s shifted for us already!
Plus, I do highly recommend the audio version because it’s read by the author (I love it when books are), and she’s so fantastic to listen to! Not necessarily because of her voice, but because it truly feels like she’s just chatting with you. Yes, she’s reading her book, but it is clear that she’s also ad-libbing and making it completely natural. There are times where she’ll mess up her words – and that wasn’t edited out. I LOVE IT! There’s something really refreshing about that in our world of editing to perfection.
I am going to re-listen to this book often as a reminder, and I will buy it digitally and in print. It’s that important and I want to really get the practice of The 5 Second Rule wired into my brain!
III. The 5 Second Rule Quotes by Mel Robbins

The best book quotes from The 5 Second Rule by Mel Robbins
“What I discovered is powerful: pushing yourself to take simple actions creates a chain reaction in your confidence and your productivity.”
“When it comes to goals, dreams, and changing your life, your inner wisdom is a genius. Your goal-related impulses, urges, and instincts are there to guide you. You need to learn to bet on them.”
“You can’t control how you feel. But you can always choose how you act.”
“The Rule doesn’t make these things easy; it makes them happen. That’s why I describe it as a tool.”
“You can feel uncertain and be ready. You can be afraid and do it anyway. You can fear rejection and still go for it.”
“Start before you’re ready. Don’t prepare, begin.”
“You Are One Decision Away from a Completely Different Life”
“There will always be someone who can’t see your worth. Don’t let it be you”
“Hesitation is the kiss of death. You might hesitate for a just nanosecond, but that’s all it takes. That one small hesitation triggers a mental system that’s designed to stop you. And it happens in less than—you guessed it—five seconds.”
“You have been assigned this mountain so that you can show others it can be moved.”
“Your feelings don’t matter. The only thing that matters is what you DO.”
“The 5 Second Rule The moment you have an instinct to act on a goal you must 5-4-3-2-1 and physically move or your brain will stop you.”
“There’s one thing that is guaranteed to increase your feelings of control over your life: a bias toward action.”
“I was the problem and in five seconds, I could push myself and become the solution.”
“Passion is not a thing, it’s a state of mind.”
“We are all so afraid of uncertainty that we want a guarantee before we even try. We want evidence that if we take a risk we will “get the girl” Its a numbers game. To play any game, you have to start. To win, you need to keep going. If you want to make your dreams come true, get ready for the long game.
Life is not a one and done sort of deal. You’ve got to work for what you want.
Picasso created nearly 100 masterpieces in his lifetime. But what most people don’t know is that he created a total of more then 50,000 works of art. .. Thats two pieces of art a day. Success is a numbers game. You are not going to win if you keep telling yourself to wait. The more often that you choose courage, the more likely you’ll succeed.”“Life is gritty and hard and then suddenly it is brilliant and amazing.”
“You aren’t battling your ability to stick to a diet, execute a business plan, repair a broken marriage and rebuild your life, hit your goals, or win over a bad manager- you are battling your feelings about doing it. You are more than capable of doing the work to change anything for the better, despite how you feel. Feelings are merely suggestions, ones you can ignore. To change you must do the same, you must ignore how you feel, and just do it anyway.”
“it’s not the big moves that change everything—it’s the smallest ones in your everyday life that do.”
“I may not be perfect, but I am worthy.”
“When it comes to change, goals, and dreams, you have to bet on yourself. That”
“Procrastination is not a form of laziness at all. It’s a coping mechanism for stress.”
“I have a hard time finding the balance between not beating myself up when it doesn’t happen as fast as I’d like it to, and not wasting time while I wait for it to happen.”
“Win or lose, at least I’m doing something.”
“Every phase of your life and career will require a different you. Using the Rule, you’ll become the person you’re meant to become in this next phase of your life.”
“pushing yourself to take simple actions creates a chain reaction in your confidence and your productivity.”
“Change your decisions and you’ll change your life. And what will change your decisions more than anything? Courage.”
“If you have the courage to start, you have the courage to succeed.”
“There will always be someone who can’t see your worth. Don’t let it be you.”
“Anytime there’s something you know you should do, but you feel uncertain, afraid, or overwhelmed…just take control by counting backwards 5- 4- 3- 2- 1. That’ll quiet your mind. Then, move when you get to “1.” Counting”
“If you can’t get yourself out of bed, then you’ll never be able to pursue all of the other changes that you want to make in your life. And if you take that simple step of taking control of your mornings, you’ll catalyze a chain of events that leads to change everywhere.”
“Seth Godin once wrote “a different part of our brains is activated when we think about what’s possible rather than what’s required.” I believe the same is true when we think about being courageous, rather than focusing on the fears that stop us. It’s the difference between focusing on the solution rather than the problem, and that tiny switch is mentally liberating.”
“Forget motivation; it’s a myth. I don’t know when we all bought into the idea that in order to change you must “feel” eager or “feel” motivated to act. It’s complete garbage. The moment it’s time to assert yourself, you will not feel motivated. In fact, you won’t feel like doing anything at all.”
“We are all capable of greatness. I believe that. It is our feelings and fears that convince us now is not the right time and keep us from achieving greatness.”
