I. Book introduction
Today is supposed to be the happiest day of my life.
I’m engaged to the man of my dreams, and in a few short hours, I’m going to stand before a judge, who will declare us husband and wife, till death does us part. Despite some bumps in the road, this day is everything I dreamed it would be.
There’s only one problem:
Someone out there doesn’t want me to live long enough to say my vows.
And if I’m not careful, they may very well get their wish.
Note: The Housemaid’s Wedding is a winter-themed “bonus scene” short story meant to fill in the long gap between Book 2 of the Housemaid series (The Housemaid’s Secret) and Book 3 (The Housemaid is Watching). It can be read either between Book 2 and Book 3, or after Book 3.

1. RACHEL HANES reviews for The Housemaid’s Wedding
The wedding that I didn’t know I needed!
This very short story details the day of Millie and Enzo’s wedding. 💒 While the wedding did not take place at a Church, but at City Hall- we still learn how in love these two are as a couple and how meant for each other that they are.
On the morning of Millie and Enzo’s wedding day, Millie wakes up to a threatening phone call. Throughout the day, Millie keeps receiving these calls and it makes her so nervous. However, Millie does not tell Enzo about these threatening and harassing phone calls as she does not want to worry him or ruin their wedding day.
Does Enzo find out about the calls? Is the wedding ruined? Will Millie ever be safe? If you’ve read and enjoyed the other books in the Housemaid series, then this book is a must read as well!
According to the Author’s Note at the beginning of this short story, the author suggests reading this story between books two and three of the Housemaid Series, or after Book Three. This way all of us Millie and Enzo fans can see them get married, and not feel cheated. 🙂
2. CASEY READS reviews for The Housemaid’s Wedding
There were a lot of bad reviews for this, but I don’t agree with those. I enjoyed it. There was suspense and their wedding. It was better than the most recent book as we got the version of Enzo we truly love instead of how she ruined him with the other book.
I thought she created suspense well for being such a short story and I was creeped out especially in the beginning.
I chose to believe this is how their story ends and I am just gonna forget about the other book. I do think she should end the series with this one though, because this series has run its course.
3. JESSICAB reviews for The Housemaid’s Wedding
This book continues the story of Millie and Enzo on their wedding day. In true Frieda style, their day does not go to planned with Millie’s past creeping up on her and returning on her special day.
I love how Frieda manages to bring in the past, covers strained relationships and ties in the future (book 3) too.
I actually found some of the script really funny too and laughed out loud at two parts in particular.
If your a fan of the housemaid series I would highly recommend reading this book-it bridges that gap perfectly and gives us a little more into the world of the housemaid. I loved it.
Short and sweet (just like Freida in her words)
4. RANDILION reviews for The Housemaid’s Wedding
How can you not swoon over all that is Enzo!?
When I first read The Housemaid… I fell in love with Millie’s story… I know people have their opinions on Frieda’s stories but this one hit home to me due to personal life experiences and it opened my eyes to things I had tried to explain away. Anyone who’s ever been in a DV relationship knows what I’m talking about.
And Enzo? So many women have different thoughts on who their perfect book boyfriend is and Enzo is mine. The way he loves and protects her with literally everything inside him… My goodness! That man is everything I hope to find in a husband one day.
I devoured these books within a week, all 3 of them, and found myself missing this couple a lot so I’m thankful Frieda wrote about the wedding we didn’t get to see in the other stories. It took me right back into their story, and it made me smile! I hope we get another story one day, of Millie, Enzo, and their children but if not – this is definitely a story I will re-read again. Thank you Freida, for opening my eyes to the abuse I was enduring without even realizing it.
5. JEN K reviews for The Housemaid’s Wedding
I knew it was a short story to bridge the gap from books 2 to 3, but I honestly think I could’ve done without this one. I like the other two short stories, even the satirical one, but this one was just. Dull. I still love Freida and she is still my favorite author, and I’m glad she wrote this because she simply felt the need to. But it’s definitely not her best and definitely not a necessary book to read in the housemaid series.
6. CHERYL SNIPE reviews for The Housemaid’s Wedding
Short and sweet
I loved that this story was short, direct, full of suspense from start to finish and had a certain sweetness to it. Enzo, Millie’s husband to be demonstrates his love and fierce protection of Millie. Freud’s McFadden has done it again even in a short story; awesome! Just when you think the story must go this way, she takes you to another totally unexpected turn. I recommend it to all psychological thriller lovers.
7. NATACHA METAYER reviews for The Housemaid’s Wedding
Good Read
So this may contain some spoilers so read the rest with caution.
Overall great read. Short and sweet I shall say. I definitely think this book could have a little more chapters and given us a little more back story to the 718 caller and her parents. I would have like to a chapter on the proposal.
Now onto the story itself. It’s a good story but like I mentioned I would have like more on the 718 caller. I read this in like a hour so you can finish it in one sitting. I love how Enzo continues to defend Millie. I have book 3 and am excited to finish it now that I have this story on their wedding.
8. JESS PALOMINO reviews for The Housemaid’s Wedding
That was so nice! I loved the idea of a wedding!🖤
The Housemaid’s Wedding is a short story that add details for all of us who have read The Housemaid trilogy.
It is set between books 2 and 3 but it can also be read, like me, at the end of trilogy and it’s going to give you a nice point of view and a sense of realization for both of them.
I loved the dress! Omg the story of the dress was so Millie! I wouldn’t even dare to dream of another kind of wedding!
Don’t we all want our Enzo? I think so!
It’s a great short story for The Housemaid fans and you’ll read it in one sitting enjoying every detail!
9. DANNII ELLE reviews for The Housemaid’s Wedding
This is a short story in The Housemaid series that takes place between the events of books two and three.
Despite measuring in at less than 100 pages this still managed to include the personalities of the characters I have grown to love, an interesting storyline I was eager to see the conclusion of, a beautiful romance and some softer moments to temper the tension, and a classic McFadden twist at the end that I did not see coming but loved all the more for it!
10. VERONICA reviews for The Housemaid’s Wedding
4.75 stars
I think people who give this book bad reviews don’t realize that the things that happen are what makes it a thriller, if the situation didn’t happen it would just be a romance book. I honestly enjoyed it! It was super short and easy to get through! It’s a novella for a reason, people are forgetting it’s not an added book to the series it’s just a mini story line for in between the books that were already written!
III. The Housemaid’s Wedding Quotes by Freida McFadden
The best book quotes from The Housemaid’s Wedding by Freida McFadden
“I will protect her. As long as I live and breathe, nobody will ever hurt her or our children.”
“Why scary? This is not scary.” He puts down his fork to look into my eyes, something that still makes my whole body tingle. “All I ever wanted is to spend the rest of my life with you. We are just making it in writing now.” He reaches for my hands, and when I give them to him, he laces his fingers into mine. “I can’t wait for you to be my wife.”
“Have you checked your coat closet since your boyfriend left this morning?”
“Do you know what it feels like for your parents to call you a poisoned apple? It doesn’t feel great. Yet, no matter how much they pushed me away, I still craved their support. I loved them, and more than anything, I wanted them to see I had changed from the girl I used to be.”
“am a perfect combination of nervous and excited. I am nervicited. God, I’m so nervous that I’m making up words now.”
“I’m sorry,” she says again, and I want to reach through the phone and throttle her. “I just can’t bear to watch you raise a girl that turns out the same way you did.”
“It’s just… a lot. It’s scary getting married, isn’t it?” “Why scary? This is not scary.” He puts down his fork to look into my eyes, something that still makes my whole body tingle. “All I ever wanted is to spend the rest of my life with you.”
“It’s my fault I’m here. I made a terrible mistake. And now it’s too late.”
“Our lock is a damn good lock. It’s a Grade One lock, which means it has resisted tests involving hammering, prying, sawing, picking, and even kicking.”
“I’m going to get married in an hour? I especially don’t understand how Enzo could get a full breakfast with an omelet and hash browns.”
“They love me so much that I haven’t seen them in fifteen years.” “Of course they love you,”
“I’ll fill Enzo in on the details later, but not today.”
“All I ever wanted is to spend the rest of my life with you.”
“perfect combination of nervous and excited. I am nervicited. God, I’m so nervous that I’m making up words now.”
“What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.”
“I do not have a traditional wedding dress. First of all, it’s not white. I hate that color,”
“And that’s when, through the snowflakes still falling outside the window of the cafe, I see the gaunt man staring at us, a murderous glint in his eyes.”
“Maybe I heard them wrong. Maybe instead of cutting my throat, the stranger on the other end of the line actually wants to cut the costs of my car insurance.”
“I hope someday you will realize the terrible mistake you have made. But for now, we do not want you here or in our lives.”
“They say rain on your wedding day is good luck.”
“I’m going to cut your throat, Millie Calloway.”
“They say rain on your wedding day is good luck. Death threats on your wedding day? Probably not so much. Still, I know exactly how to deal with this asshole.”
“I am a perfect combination of nervous and excited. I am nervicited.”
“There are no Millie keychains. Believe me—I’ve checked. I don’t have a keychain kind of name.”
“Is snow on your wedding day good luck? Or is only rain? Or is rain just ironic?”
“Of course, I could call 911. That’s always an option. But I’ve now got less than three hours until my wedding. If I get the police involved, I may as well scratch “getting married” off my appointment book for today.”
“It’s entirely possible I’m imagining things, but my gut tells me there was recognition in that man’s eyes when he looked at me. And my gut is rarely wrong.”
“Do you know what it feels like for your parents to call you a poisoned apple? It doesn’t feel great. Yet, no matter how much they pushed me away, I still craved their support. I loved them, and more than anything, I wanted them to see I had changed from the girl I used to be.”
