I. Book introduction
Quinn Alexander has committed an unthinkable crime.
To avoid spending her life in prison, Quinn makes a run for it. She leaves behind her home, her job, and her family. She grabs her passport and heads for the northern border before the police can discover what she’s done.
But when an unexpected snowstorm forces her off the road, Quinn must take refuge at the broken-down, isolated Baxter Motel. The handsome and kindly owner, Nick Baxter, is only too happy to offer her a cheap room for the night.
Unfortunately, the Baxter Motel isn’t the quiet, safe haven it seemed to be. The motel has a dark and disturbing past. And in the dilapidated house across the way, the silhouette of Nick’s ailing wife is always at the window. Always watching.
In the morning, Quinn must leave the motel. She’ll pack up her belongings and get back on the road to freedom.
But first, she must survive the night.
Do Not Disturb is a Hitchcock-style psychological thriller that will keep you tearing through the pages until you reach the shocking conclusion!

This is my review of No Not Disturb.
Quinn Alexander has committed an unthinkable crime. She killed her husband, Derek in self-defense. Her husband is lying dead on the kitchen floor in a pool of blood.
At the same time as she was washing the blood off her hands, the doorbell rang and it was Deputy Scott Dwyer, her boyfriend when they were in high school. He had paid a visit to the house regarding a noise disturbance, coming from their home, but Quinn reassures him that she had been watching a horror movie with the sound turned up while her husband was working.
But after getting rid of Deputy Dwyer, she had two options: confess or run. She decided to run, but got derailed by a New Hampshire blizzard; forcing her to take shelter at the run-down, isolated highway Baxter Hotel. The handsome owner, Nick Baxter, is only too happy to offer her a cheap room for the night.
But the Baxter Motel has a dark and disturbing past. And in the run-down house across the way, the Nick’s ailing wife, Rosalie is always at the window…watching every move.
In the morning when the plows have been out to clear the parking lot, Quinn must leave the motel. But first, she must survive the night.
Do Not Disturb is a Hitchcock-style psychological very creepy thriller that will keep you glued to the pages until you reach the shocking conclusion.
2. CHANTAL reviews for Do Not Disturb
Quinn’s story starts with her murdering her husband. This story just takes off and doesn’t slow down until the end.
Quinn finds herself running from the law and hides out at the Baxter Motel, were she briefly befriends the old lady, Greta, staying in one of the other rooms and the owner Nick and his disabled wife. With Quinn’s sister, is looking for her and a whole bunch of twists makes its way in.
Another Freida specialty, so twisty, suspenseful and fast paced. Loved it!
3. NYX reviews for Do Not Disturb
“Maybe we used up all our happiness. Maybe everybody only gets so much.”
Do Not Disturb, starts with a literal bang. I love me some mystery psychological thriller goodness, especially when they keep me guessing until the end and boy was i entertained. A muder, awoman on the run, astorm, areepy isolated motel and a house on the hill with a woman’s silhouette in the window. What’s not to love. Someone described this as “An homage to suspense master Alfred Hitchcock” and they were absolutely correct, it reminded me a lot of his movies while still possessing an extra layer of originality.
I quickly found myself hooked on the author’s deliciously utterly un-put-down-able popcorn thriller. She balanced the story incredibly well with her intricate premise, fast paced storytelling skills, compelling suspense and surprising twists with cleverly POV switches between the 3 characters.
Freida McFadden is an author i’ll gadly follow down the rabbit hole of psychological suspense thriller in the future. Her style is the ideal binge-worthy Autumn read. 325 glorious pages of fun, creepiness, thrill, edge of your seat suspense combined with knock you out of your seat twists and turns. This was a solid 4.5 stars read.
“I love mirrors,” Greta tells me. “Mirrors are the barrier between the conscious and unconscious mind. Everyone has an inner concept of themselves, but mirrors are reality. What you see right now that is the truth that everyone else sees.”
4. TRACY reviews for Do Not Disturb
Freida McFadden’s Do Not Disturb delivers another suspenseful and thrilling escape from reality.
Narrators Holly Adams and Daniel Thomas May brought the story to life for my imagination without missing a beat. A most talented and dynamic duo.
5. SHELLY reviews for Do Not Disturb
I loved the book
I love this book so much and all of the Characters. i couldn’t stop reading it. It was so good. In the beginning to the middle though i didn’t expect Greta to be the one who stabed christina For wanting to steal Rosalie’s husband becase it seemed like Greta was a sweet frail old woman. But then again i didn’t accept claudia to be the one To stab quinn and Greta at the and But overall Everything
Ended in a happy ever after The book was brilliant. Great work Frida.
Awesome book
6. PLACEHOLDER reviews for Do Not Disturb
Love all of Freida’s books
Can’t read them fast enough. I have read all but one that will be delivered this week. And I’ve already ordered one not due out till around Oct. I open her books and just cannot stop reading. Chapters are short. I like that too. There has only been one of her books I just could not enjoy. Too long and drawn out. “The Perfect Son”. But other than that one, I have read them all. I get so hooked on each book I read. I want more. Always surprise endings. Suspenseful. Edge of your seat.
7. H.SHAW reviews for Do Not Disturb
I REALLY did not see that coming😯
From now on ALL my book reviews of Freida McFadden’s work will be titled… I did NOT see that coming. She never disappoints. You think you know how it’s all going to play out until you don’t. I love this this book is a spin on PSYCHO, one of my favorite Alfred Hitchcock movies but the actually two twists in this story makes it all the more appealing. I love the multiple POVs and the fluctuating timelines. Once again another great psychological thriller from Ms McFadden.
8. SOL reviews for Do Not Disturb
Freida McFadden has once again proven why she is my favorite author wit “Do Not Disturb.” This book captivated me from start to finish, and the twists at the end left me completely floored. The intricate plot kept me guessing, and just when I thought I had it all figured out, McFadden threw in another twist that took me by surprise.
One of the highlights for me was seeing a part of Rosalie and Nick’s life. The ending left me satisfied and happy, tying up the loose ends in a way that felt both unexpected and fitting. “Do Not Disturb” is a testament to McFadden’s skill as a storyteller, and I can’t thank her enough for yet another amazing read. This book is a must-read for anyone who loves suspenseful, well-crafted novels. Thank you, Freida McFadden, for delivering another masterpiece!
9. RI reviews for Do Not Disturb
At this point, I’ll even read Freida’s grocery list. She has become my favourite author for mystery thriller genre and the more I read her books the more I love her storytelling, the way she writes her characters, the scheming and plotting and twists and turns in her stories.
The starting of this book was amazing and the ending was mind-blowing. Somehow I always know what’s gonna happen in the ending but Freida never fails to surprise me because she always have atleast 5 or 6 plot twists coming up one after the other.
I also love that Freida always gives us a small romantic story in her thriller books to keep us more captivated in the story. Though you can never believe any of her characters but still it’s fun to read that part of the story. And I liked Rosie and Nick’s story as well.
This was a multi-narrative story and it was a bit hard for me to keep up with the plot. It was exciting and exhilarating to see the way story unfolded and the truths started to unravel. That old lady still creeps me out **shudders**
Overall this was an entertaining and an enjoyable book and if you are looking for something like this you should definitely give this book a try. It’s Freida McFadden guys! Do you really need any other reason than that?
10. JAYNE reviews for Do Not Disturb
“Do Not Disturb” had no shortage of disturbing characters and plot twists.
When a woman kills her husband in self-defense, her quick crime scene exit gets derailed by a New Hampshire blizzard; forcing her to take shelter at the run-down, inconspicuous highway Baxter Hotel.
Is the Baxter Hotel similar to the Bates Hotel?
Throughout the book’s entirety, the author teases readers with Bates Hotel comparisons; keeping readers in wait for that famously gruesome shower scene.
Freida McFadden’s books are fast-paced, fun, and keep you guessing. Although this book’s ending was contrived and implausible, this book was still a 4-star read for me.
I listened to the audiobook and the two narrators did a superb job.
I always enjoy Freida McFadden’s books and look forward to listening to her future titles.
III. Do Not Disturb Quotes by Freida McFadden

The best book quotes from Do Not Disturb by Freida McFadden
“Have you ever just met somebody that you clicked with? That you felt was an extension of yourself? The missing piece.”
“Maybe we used up all our happiness. Maybe everybody only gets so much.”
“I love mirrors,” Greta tells me. “Mirrors are the barrier between the conscious and unconscious mind. Everyone has an inner concept of themselves, but mirrors are reality. What you see right now—that is the truth that everyone else sees.”
“You don’t even realize you have everything until your whole life falls apart.”
“I’m not dead. Did you think I was? That I’m some corpse my husband propped up in front of the second-floor window to frighten his guests? I’m not. I’m very much alive. And I’m afraid my husband is a murderer.”
“I hang up the phone and drop it down onto the center of the bed. Back when I was a kid, we used to have a real phone. A landline. And when you were mad at someone, you could slam it down. It’s just not the same with a cell phone.”
“Then I have to decide if I’ll forgive him. I probably will. It gets easier each time, and I have to admit, I don’t know what I would do without him.”
“Or more likely, Derek’s mother comes by for absolutely no reason at all except to count all the ways I’m an unsatisfactory wife. (To be fair, this time she would be absolutely right.)”
“Bernie liked his corn dogs and curly fries. You did not have to be a psychic to know it would do him in.”
“If you are going on a trip, it is important to pack socks.”
“That is your choice. But even if you do not know your fortune, that does not keep it from coming true.” “If you know your fortune, are you able to stop it? Or do you just have to try to look surprised when it happens?”
“But he seems nice. Harmless. Like he wouldn’t hurt a fly.”
“Once again, I can’t help but think how attractive my husband is. But the scariest part is I feel nothing right now. Not even the slightest trace of desire. And I’m too tired to care.”
“Claudia’s laundry. I found it tucked between two shirts.”
“Nah. We live in that old house right behind the motel.”
“It wasn’t until after we were husband and wife that everything changed.”
“I flip around the “DO NOT DISTURB” sign on my door, then I close the door and lock it. I walk over to the window, watching the flakes fall from the sky.”
“when I was a kid, we used to have a real phone. A landline. And when you were mad at someone, you could slam it down. It’s just not the same with a cell phone.”
“I can’t shake this uneasy feeling that I should leave this motel right now. Grab my bag and get back on the road, no matter how hard it’s raining or snowing. This place is trouble. But that’s silly. It’s warm and dry in here. And there’s an actual bed that I can sleep in.”
“Ultimately, I’m just too tired to go through with it. I’m literally too tired to kill myself.”
“It’s not like I did this with any kind of well-thought-out plan. I didn’t wake up this morning and say to myself, Hey, I’m going to kill my husband today! If I had done something like that, I would have filled up my gas tank beforehand, for starters.”
“Iwant to make one thing clear. I killed him. I’m not going to claim it was the butler or a one-armed man. I did it. I killed my husband.”
“Sure,” I say. You could be on the run after killing your husband. Or maybe you didn’t kill him, and he’s coming after you. So yes, things could be worse.”
“The headline jumps out at me: Woman Found Murdered in New Hampshire Motel. The woman in question was twenty-five-year-old Christina Marsh.”
“When we walk into our house, I sit at the kitchen table, but Nick just stands there. He doesn’t say anything for several seconds, but it’s obvious he has something to say. I look up at him, waiting. And then he says it. “So it’s just a possibility, right?” He folds his arms across his chest. “That doesn’t mean if you get pregnant again, you’re definitely going to get worse.” I knew that’s what he was thinking. I knew it, but I wasn’t sure if he would have the gall to say it. I mean, it’s easy for him to be glib about it. He’s not the one whose body is literally attacking itself.”
“But even if you do not know your fortune, that does not keep it from coming true.”
“I hardly ever think about our parents anymore. It’s been an eternity since they died. I can’t even imagine the sound of my mother’s voice anymore. I forget whether my father had a beard or not. It feels like I knew them in another lifetime. But I still come here sometimes. I bring flowers.”
