I. Book introduction
Hunting Adeline by H.D. Carlton is a dark and intense thriller following Adeline’s harrowing fight for survival after being kidnapped by human traffickers. As she endures torment and plots her escape, her relentless lover, Zade, stops at nothing to find her. When they reunite, vengeance is inevitable. Together, they bring down the traffickers, turning the hunters into the hunted.
The conclusion to the Cat and Mouse Duet is here…
“If she were to die… the world would die with her.”
The worst Adeline Reilly expected for her life were a few unholy ghosts haunting the hallways of Parsons Manor, not falling in love with her stalker and ending up in the clutches of a trafficking ring.
Trapped in a house used to groom women for the elite, she faces the biggest fight of her life—survive the Culling and escape. But that’s not so easy when watchful eyes are determined to see her fail. However, Adeline may have an unlikely ally, who just might be the key to her getting out alive.
But trusting them is a risk that could cost her everything.
Meanwhile, Zade will stop at nothing until Adeline is safe in his arms again, even if he must burn the world to find her. Hunting his little mouse is what he’s best at, but who she’ll be when he finds her is a battle that he doesn’t know he can win.
It won’t be the test of time they must survive, but the memories of who they once were.
Warning: This is the second and final installment to the Duet. You must read Haunting Adeline first.

1. AYMAN reviews for Hunting Adeline
before i get into it, yes this book is more triggering than the first. like 10x over not even joking. there are very graphic scenes that isn’t meant for the faint of heart. tread carefully, your mental health matters. there’s a list of the full TWs in the beginning of the book as well.
anywayyys
HOLYFUCKINGHELLWHATTHEACTUALFUCK?!?!? i’m not even fucking playing when i say this book was a roller coaster of emotions. i don’t cry easily when it comes to books but i was fucking sobbing, crying, and felt my heart being ripped out of my chest. i was screaming with joy as some scenes and kicking my feet in the air at others.
yes i will go ahead and say that this book is 10X better than the first. the writing drastically improved. i was hooked from the very being to the end. i read this in less than 24 hours because i was fucking addicted.
i’m being dead fucking serious when i say i went through every emotion while reading this book as did the main characters. i grew so attached to them and wanted nothing but the best for them.
i won’t get into the plot or anything that much since #1 it’s a trigger in itself and #2 there’s a lot to unpack anyway and i’m trying to keep this short and sweet. so i’ll talk about the main characters.
Addie’s character arc and growth was admiring as fuck. not gonna lie, i wasn’t really attached to any of the characters after reading the first book but this second one really turned that around.
2. ISY reviews for Hunting Adeline
Can Zade and Addie adopt me? PLEASE? I’m a good girl I promise 😇
Holy fuck this story was an absolute MASTERPIECE. It was heartbreaking, it was healing, it was BEAUTIFUL. Zade was just perfection. The way he helped and pushed Addie was continuously fighting for her had me SWOONING. This man is a whole other breed let me tell ya.
Adeline’s character development was so insane. Watching her grow into the beautiful and strong badass she is was so amazing. She is just incredible, like seriously. Reading what she was going through made my heart ache, but the way she fucking proved to those ugly ass mole rats that she is, and always will be, so much more powerful than them was fucking phenomenal. Addie truly is a precious, rare gem way fucking more than a regular old diamond.
I fucking LOVEDDDD it when she chopped [redacted] dick off. I CHEERED!!
Sibby was the perfect balance to the story. It is very dark and heavy so having the henchmen-loving, orgy-crazy doll made the whole thing so much better. That girl had me cracking up every time she talked.
The Cat & Mouse duet is truly one of a kind! I am so fucking sad that it is over and yet so fucking happy Zade and Addie got the ending they deserve.
And real quick I would just like to thank my period 😒 for joining me on this adventure. You truly just made it a whole other kind of experience 😐
Ms. HD I will be sending you my tears <3
Please check TRIGGER WARNINGS before reading babes
Zade & Addie I LOVE you and I am NEVER letting you go 😁🥰

5 Diamond Stars ♥︎
I love when a book makes me nauseous.
*trigger warnings will be listed at the bottom of this review*
I truly don’t know how to put into words how much I LOVE this book and sincerely this entire duet. This is a masterpiece and I have been putting off writing this review because this one is hard for me to write.
I am so enthralled with Zade and Addie. This continuation and completion to the Cat and Mouse duet was beautiful and heartbreaking in soo many ways. With that in mind, this book was dark to another level in comparison to the first and like stated above^, there were parts soo disturbing, the nausea couldn’t help but creep in. That’s how well-written this book is as well as how moving.
The start of this book takes place immediately where the first ended and then we are taken down a long, dark, and disturbing road filled with extremely realistic and graphic pain, suffering, and traumatic actions and experiences. I cried—multiple times—very hard.
This book doesn’t just give up a happy ending for us readers. We are forced through every single struggle that takes place and the challenge, that is, to get out of them on the other side, broken but willing to fight the mental and physical traumas to come out stronger.
As far as Zade & Addie, I didn’t think I could possibly love these two any more than I did in the first. Zade truly is one of my top book boyfriends and I mean I really can’t just say that about any of my book boyfriends. This man holds such a precious place in my heart, it HURTS me that he is fictional. Addie came out of this duet being one of my most treasured female characters. I personally, couldn’t be more proud of her growth. Now let’s mention the amazing Sibby. By God, I love that girl. She is something else but just as Zade & Addie, I didn’t think I could love her any more than I did before.
These characters mean soooo much to me and this entire duet truly touched me in soo many places. It will forever stay a top read for me and I recommend it to anyone who can handle this type of darkness. I’m so sad it’s over.

4. M CARRIGAN reviews for Hunting Adeline
A-ma-Z-ing!
The duet of Haunting Adeline and Hunting Adeline is one of the best I’ve ever read. The characters are fascinating – over the top – yet still relatable and likable. The situations they find themselves in are out there, but believable enough to make sense within the boundaries of the stories’ universe.
The stories hit on all the emotions being creepy, amuzing, horrifying on several levels, sad, empowering, devastating, and laugh-out-loud-in-a-public-place funny. Sometimes, all at once!
I loved these books, and if you are into dark romance, you’ll love them too.
Hurray for H. D. Carlton!
5. JENNIFER VEER-BOYES reviews for Hunting Adeline
Good Read
I loved this book. It was definitely dark and twisted. It was fast paced and kept me on the edge of my seat.
This series was the first books I’ve read by this author and I’m highly impressed. The passion was so palpable. Zane’s character was so intense. I could feel his need to devour Adeline, to crawl inside her and become one (a scary thought). Half the time I couldn’t tell if it was love or hate that drove him.
Adeline’s character was so strong. I hate weak characters, and I can assure you week was not Adeline. She had a few spots I wanted to smack her myself, but luckily those times didn’t last long. She endures a lot, yet keeps fighting.
And Sibby, thank you for Sibby coming back. I think I speak for hundreds, we love Sibby. I really hope her disappearance means we haven’t heard the last from her or the sexy nurses assistants.
This book was great. Now on to Finding Molly.
6. VIVIENE reviews for Hunting Adeline
Heartbreaking
This book broke me and put me back together again. Adeline is my Shero. My heart broke so many times for her but I knew Zade was always going to put back the pieces. This is a well written book. I felt like lived everything with and through the characters. Oh I was so happy to see my girl Sibby again. I would recommend this book to anyone who is tired of running and is ready to fight their demons. I gave this book 5 stars because the plot had me on my toes and the author did an amazing job with the characters. Spice and plot heavy. Looking forward to her other books.
7. MANDY FIDDLER reviews for Hunting Adeline
Amazing and thrilling!
Adeline has been taken and Zade won’t rest until he finds her.
Definitely some twists and turns in this book, but the character development was done so well you don’t feel lost or like you don’t understand where the characters are coming from.
Just when you think they can’t turn up the heat any hotter……they do! Definitely some very explicit “scenes” and triggers for some readers, but I thoroughly enjoyed the story.
8. WILLIAM WILSON reviews for Hunting Adeline
Better than Haunting was
I read Haunting and was honestly questioning reading this one, not because I didn’t like Haunting but because it was a slow read. There were several moments where I just wanted something to happen because it just went on way too long and I was bored. Thankfully, I found the pace and story of Hunting soo much more enjoyable. It took me a solid couple weeks to get through Haunting, it took me about 3 days for Hunting because I found it hard to put down. Much better read.
I asked about this book before I started reading it to get opinions on the read due to the trigger warning at the beginning too, the vast majority of comments I got were along the lines of this being tough to read. They had to take mental health breaks and it was a lot to take in. Maybe I’m desensitized AF from life but that was not the case for me. I wasn’t bothered by any of it. There was one moment where I did tear up but it wasn’t for the SA. That moment, that choice Addie made, it got me.
I’m a sucker for craving the after though so I’m a little peeved that the epilogue didn’t give me more but oh well I guess haha.
Honestly, I could have skipped Haunting and just read this one and probably would have been just fine.
9. MADDY reviews for Hunting Adeline
Did I read this massive book in a day? Yes I did. I honestly didn’t have expectations going in. I just knew I loved Zade and Addie and couldn’t wait for more of them and I trusted H.D. to give me a fantastically written story. And boy did she. 😭 This book is so good you guys. It felt like everything happened exactly the way it needed to happen!
Y’all already know I like to keep it vague and this review will be no exception, but here we go:
Haunting Adeline was my favorite book of last year and ends in a pretty rough cliffhanger.
The author warns that if you’re looking for a quick reunion for Zade and Addie, this may not be the book for you. Yeah, know that going in babes, but also know that their time apart is important to their story. It wouldn’t have felt right if Zade swooped in to save her in chapter two, I’m sorry.
H.D. also warns this book is much darker. Heed that warning loves. I mean it. Addie does not have a good time for a lot of this book. H.D. does not shy away from the realities of sex trafficking and the situation Addie is in. She also doesn’t shy away from the reality of the aftermath and the healing process and I really loved how that was handled too.
And Zade is in fine form, he will reign at the top of my book boyfriends list, likely forever. There is no love out there that compares to the way Zade loves Addie. It’s everything. I fucking love that man. Words cannot adequately express my feelings so I’ll stop trying.
The spicy scenes in this book will live rent free in my mind for the rest of time. Fuck they are so good. 🥵
We also get some more Sibby in this one y’all, and I absolutely love her and cannot wait for more of her story!!
Let me just say again, I loved this book you guys. It was everything I needed and more and I hope y’all feel the same way.
I don’t need to tell y’all to pick this one up when it comes out, but this is me telling you to anyway!
10. RAE reviews for Hunting Adeline
4.5⭐️ This duet had me in a chokehold
I really don’t know what to say except I loved this.
The first 45% was extremely difficult to get through (because of the depravity and darkness), but what I read in the last 55% made that reading experience worth it. The relationship development alone was just breath-taking.
Addie was one of the strongest FMC’s I’ve read. She continually saved herself. And yet she never thought herself weak for needing help. Ugh. 😭
But what truly got me crying and wanting to praise it was the rose scene- where Zane and Addie were first trying to be intimate together several months after her trauma. I’ve read a lot of books where the FMC was SA’d and not even a few days or scenes later, she would be having sex with the MMC. They all just felt so…disrespectful, or maybe unrealistic, but this? This was beautiful and sensual and imperfectly real. I never read anything like it. For that alone, I was awed.
I’m so glad I read this duet, and I am glad I finally read this book. Although I did have to mentally prepare myself for a while lol.
III. Hunting Adeline Quotes by H. D. Carlton
The best book quotes from Hunting Adeline by H. D. Carlton
“Heaven isn’t a place you go to when you die, it’s inside the person that’s worth dying for.”
“You and I will never end, little mouse. Even when we’re six feet under, and our bones are dust, I will haunt your soul until it aches to be free of me. And then, I will hold you tighter.”
“I don’t care if I need to set this world on fire until there’s no one left but you and me. The world will burn around us, and I’ll gladly live in chaos with you as long as the only person that is a danger to you is me.”
“Meadows, baby. Our last name is Meadows.”
“Without you, I will shatter. But with you, I am indestructible.”
“I’m going to burn the entire fucking world down until I find her, and I don’t care who gets burnt.”
“Our mouths are touching the same spot,” she says shakily. “Does that count as kissing?”
“You tell me, little mouse. When I make you cry out for God, does that count as praying?”“I may own every breath in your body, but make no mistake, Adeline, you own mine, too. I am yours to command. To bend and break. To mold and manipulate. Do you think that makes me weak? Or do you think I’m strong enough to admit that even though my body can physically live on without you, I would never get my fucking soul back?”
“Zade may be Hades, but the dark God has never been known to bow for anyone but his woman.”
“What you’ve forgotten is that the heart beating inside your chest isn’t fucking yours,” he snarls. “It’s mine. And if my heart has stopped working, then pull that trigger, little mouse. Kill the rest of me. I’m nothing if I’m not the reason you breathe.”
“Did she cry out for God?” he pushes. “Yes,” Xavier spits, and fuck, I’m falling apart. I thrust against Zade’s hand, rolling my hips mindlessly, the bliss eroding my entire being. “Good,” he says, a grin in his voice. “That means she was crying out for me.”
“She holds on to me like she’s falling, but I have no interest in catching her. I will always fall with her, chasing after her even in death.”
“Scars only serve as reminders of what we’ve survived, not what killed us.”
“tried so hard to run from him, and now all I want to do is run to him.”
“Meadows, baby. Our last name is Meadows.” “Yours. Don’t get ahead of yourself. You’ll be expected to beg.” There’s no stopping the savage grin from gracing my lips. “I love to beg.”
“I’ve followed you through lifetimes, Adeline. My soul needs you so badly that I’ve become a shadow, destined to hunt you for eternity.”
“You can throw glitter on a snake, but the bitch still bites.”
“I love you, Zade. Sometimes I can’t fucking stand it,” I say, my voice raspy and uneven. “But it was the only thing that kept me alive. You saved me. Even when we were apart, you saved me. And I hope to God you never stop hunting me.”
“You’ll always be safe with me, little mouse. Always.”
“If you’re my death, then I’m your fucking lifeline.”
“I never understood why the sickest of humanity go out of their way to appear the prettiest. You can throw glitter on a snake, but the bitch still bites.”
“We know you’re a bad bitch, Zade.”
“We’re going to burn down the world together.”
“She approaches me slowly. “Let’s run some scenarios. What do you do when a man asks you to get on your knees for him?”
“Get on my knees,” I answer, my voice hoarse.
“And when he tells you to unfasten his pants and take out his cock?”
“Do as he says.”
She nods, studying me closely.
“And then what?”
Bite his dick off.”“You’re brave. Incredibly brave, and a goddamn survivor, and it’s admirable as fuck. You have no idea how proud of you I am. But you’re also impulsive, and reactive, and I refuse to lose you again, do you hear me? I won’t. Which means that you have to listen to me, and you cannot go off and do your own thing because you think you’re helping. We’re a team, baby. Got it?”
“At least you’ll end up marrying a rich man,” I comment. She pins me with a dry look. “Now I can never marry you. It’s my life’s purpose to disappoint her in every decision I make.” I arch a brow. “Don’t underestimate me, Addie. I’ll become a poor man for you.”
“Zade is quiet for a beat. “Happiness is fleeting. All that matters is that they’re living their life the way they want to.” “You believe that?” I ask, facing him. “That happiness is fleeting?” He shrugs, tossing the last bite of his cone into his mouth, and chews as he contemplates something. “Absolutely,” he says finally. “It’s not something solid you can hold on to. It’s vapor in the wind, and all you can do is inhale it when it’s near and hope it comes around again when it blows away.”
