1. LAURA reviews for The Surrogate Mother

One thing Freida can do is write a dumb ass female character and she made no exception in the surrogate mother!

I dare you to try not to use any expletives while reading this book! It’s IMPOSSIBLE!

The main character Abby made every stupid decision known to human kind, would question it and yet do the complete opposite to rectify it!

This book was so entertaining but also had me highly stressed!!! 😂😂😂

This is my review of The Surrogate Mother.

Abby had a good job in advertising, a great marriage to husband, Sam, a math professor, and she came from a well-off family.

But Abby was missing one thing, to make the picture complete…Abby wanted a baby more than anything.

After years of failed infertility treatments and adoptions that had fallen through, it seemed like motherhood was not in her future. But then her personal assistant Monica made a generous offer that made all of Abby’s dreams come true.

Monica offers to be Abby’s surrogate. Sam and Abby will compensate Monica by sending her to graduate school. After much consideration, Abby and her husband except Monica as a surrogate. The plan is now in place and Abby couldn’t be happier!

This novel has so many twists, that it kept me on my toes. Another great book by McFadden! I am so impressed with this author that I will continue to read all of her novels.

3. JAYNE reviews for The Surrogate Mother

When a woman is desperate for a child, anything can happen.

And “anything” is exactly what happens in Freida McFadden’s “The Surrogate Mother.”

Although “The Surrogate Mother” was not my favorite “surrogate thriller” and/or “Freida book”, it was a compelling, fast-paced. and entertaining drama that was intriguing from beginning to end.

Yes, it was predictable and yes, it had many “this would never happen” implausible moments.

But it featured author Freida McFadden’s classic misdirections, twists, and unreliable narrators — making this quick-and-easy read a winner.

I listened to the audiobook and narrator Alyson Crawchuk did a superb job with the narration.

This is my 7th book by author Freida McFadden and I am a fan.

When the next Freida book is released, I’M IN!

4. SHERRI THACKER reviews for The Surrogate Mother

This is my 13th book by Freida McFadden and I have to say I laughed out so loud while listening to this book. This gripped me from the very beginning and the ending was epic! And the MANY twists near the end? Holy cow!!! Freida is a genius! Another fantastic book by a fantastic author!

5. DESTINY K reviews for The Surrogate Mother

Cliché and Predictable but oh so satisfying!

The way the author writes is more curt and to the point but it doesn’t effect the flow. The characters are funny and relatable and as a woman struggling with infertility who has flirted with the idea of surrogacy several times, I relate so hard to the protagonist Abby. Despite the plot being cliché and predictable, there were a few plot twists and some turns I didn’t expect. It’s a quick and fun read and I definitely recommend! 🙂

6. PLACEHOLDER reviews for The Surrogate Mother

Geez. Every single book by Freida is my favorite

Surrogate Mother was my favorite (I think). I have read almost all her books. Each one is sooooo good. This one I liked because it did not keep going back years and then back to present time. I was sooooo hooked. I read in 2 days. The chapters are short (which I like). I was so confused and could not begin to think I knew how it was going to end. This was my favorite. Well, maybe. Oh my gosh. They all are. How does Freida do this? This was my favorite. Edge of my seat. Well maybe…. They are all my favorite. How can anyone write so many books and all soooo good.? All 5 stars. The only one that did not hold my interests as much was “The Perfect Son”. I have already ordered 2 more of her books that haven’t come out yet.

7. S WALLIS reviews for The Surrogate Mother

An emotional, disturbing thriller

This book brought out so many emotions! I felt heartbroken at one point, the next love and excitement. I could see many red flags in this book, it was like watching a movie where you start yelling at the victims to get out and run away! At one point I could feel the anger building in myself at the characters. My anxiety was rising as I read on. Then when I think I figured it out, the rug got pulled out from under my feet! Like how do you go from a professional excited for a new baby, to drugs, unemployment, murder, then happiness. To be honest, I still don’t feel comforted even once the book ends! Something just still seems unsettling and off. Definitely an emotional rollercoaster ride!

8. IVOR reviews for The Surrogate Mother

FRIEDA IS BEYOND WOW!

This was my 15th book, and I think it’s one of her best, as is always the case, Frieda twists and turns and turns again!

I have become addicted to Ms McFadden books as most of them ARE definitely NOT put down able.

I have detective novels, police procedurals and murder mysteries for years, I have personal record of 98% working out the end before it arrives.

With Frieda my score is ZERO!!

9. SVETLANA reviews for The Surrogate Mother

As with all previous books by Freida McFadden that I have read by now, this one was a not-put-down fast read too.

Abby has a loving husband and a good job but only wants a baby she cannot conceive. They are planning to adopt a baby but at the last moment, the young mother changes her heart and refuses to give it to adoption.

Monica is Abby’s assistant and she offers to help Abby and San and become a surrogate mother for them. Abby’s happiness doesn’t have limits and she doesn’t know that her big problems only start.

The book is easily read and events have twisted and unexpected turns that keep us, readers, breathless and turning page after page fast to find what happens next.

The book deserves a 5-star rating.

10. KIM HESS reviews for The Surrogate Mother

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️I really loved this book! Freida has done it again folks. She has yet to write a book, I didn’t either like A LOT or LOVE! She is by far one of my favorite authors and I will always recommend her books to anyone. This book will be no exception. This book was my second to last book that I have left to read of all her books. (Not counting the medical humor ones, I still has those to get to. Thank God 🙏🏻) But I only have Suicide Med to go and then I’m done. It’s very sad. I’ve been trying to save them, so I don’t run out and would always have one of her books left to read. But, I can only go so long before I need another Freida fix. 🤣 And I’m so sad, I’ve come so close to the end. It’s getting real and I don’t like it. So Freida, you have to keep writing those books okay. 😉

Her books are fast paced and such a fun, wild ride with twists and epilogues that will blow your mind. 🤯

If you’re not familiar with this book, it’s about a girl named Abby who is married to Sam. They have been trying to have a baby for quite some time, but unfortunately, have been unsuccessful in their attempts. They have tried IVF and adoption, but they never worked out for one reason or another. So, A young woman, Monica, Abby’s assistant actually, makes Abby an offer she can’t refuse. Monica offers to carry their child for them. To be their surrogate mother. They were skeptical at first, but ultimately agreed. Well, you can just imagine how wild and out of hand things could get with this scenario. It’s just such great domestic thriller. I’m not going to say anything else except to read this book. It’s such a fun read. I turn to my Freida books when I want a definite exciting read from start to finish. This was definitely one of them. This book was ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 stars for me!

Now, I can’t wait for her new book, The Co-Worker to come out. I’ve put a request in on NetGalley. Still have my fingers crossed for that approval. 🤞🏻🤞🏻

What Freida books do you still have left to read? Or have you finished them all?

III. The Surrogate Mother Quotes by Freida McFadden

The Surrogate Mother Quotes by Freida McFadden

The best book quotes from The Surrogate Mother by Freida McFadden

“There’s only one thing different about this baby shower from all other baby showers thrown for the other women in my company: I’m not pregnant.”

“It wasn’t until she found out I was trying for a baby that our relationship deteriorated.”

“And thanks to Monica’s generosity, we’re going to be parents soon. I don’t know why I’m getting so paranoid.”

“That’s the best part about having a landline. You can slam it down. You don’t get the joy of slamming a phone down when you’re on a cell phone. What can you do—press “end call” really angrily?”

“You don’t know real numbers from the Real Housewives of Orange County.”

“But here’s the weird part: when Sam unlocks the doors to the car with his key fob, Monica immediately jumps into the shotgun seat. Considering we’re giving her a ride, that seems odd to me. I’m Sam’s wife—I should be the one sitting next to him.”

“My mother, in stark contrast to my husband, is absolutely convinced of my innocence. So much so that she thinks if they do arrest me, the police will have a wrongful arrest lawsuit on their hands. My mother is very into lawsuits. Last year, she got a pants suit she didn’t like from Saks Fifth Avenue and she called her lawyer to see if she could sue. (The answer was no. But she was able to return it. It’s unclear why she didn’t do that in the first place.)”

“When I have difficulty sleeping at night, all I have to do is go into his bedroom and peer down at his sweet little sleeping face, listen to his deep, even breathing, and all the tension drains from my body.”

“I swivel my head to the side. I’m shocked to see none other than Monica Johnson standing only a few feet away from us. We’re nowhere in the vicinity of work. What is she doing here?”

“So is it Abby’s egg?” the doctor asks. Monica shakes her head. “No, Abby’s eggs are no good. We’re using my eggs and her husband’s sperm.” “Oh!” Dr. Wong gives me a strange look, which I probably deserve. Monica is essentially having a baby with my husband. It’s not like I would have considered this if I weren’t so desperate to become a mother. “Well, that’s great.”

“And then her eyes start to water. She swipes at them quickly, before the tears can fall, but she’s definitely on the verge of crying. Except why is she crying? “Can we get a recording of this?” Monica asks.”

“Sam is being his usual antisocial self and kicking up a fuss about having Monica over for dinner tonight. I called to remind him to put the lasagna I made in the oven, and he’s taking the opportunity to piss and moan about how he doesn’t want to do this.”

“She hands them over to Monica. “Here’s an extra copy for your husband.” “Thank you,” Monica says. “Enjoy! And congratulations, you two!”

“I thought…well, maybe the bad period was over.” Bad period? “But I knew in my heart it was just a matter of time. People don’t change.”

The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood

The Handmaid’s Tale is a novel of such power that the reader will be unable to forget its images and its forecast. Set in the near future, it describes life in what was once the United States and is now called the Republic of Gilead, a monotheocracy that has reacted to social unrest and a sharply declining birthrate by reverting to, and going beyond, the repressive intolerance of the original Puritans. The regime takes the Book of Genesis absolutely at its word, with bizarre consequences for the women and men in its population.
