I. Book introduction
#1 New York Times and TikTok superstar Rebecca Yarros concludes her bestselling Flight & Glory series.
Two years after the man she loved was killed in Afghanistan, Morgan Bartley is trying to put the pieces of her life back together. The reno on her dilapidated beach house in the Outer Banks might be just the distraction she needs to keep her debilitating anxiety attacks at bay and begin to heal her heart…if she can ignore the ridiculously handsome guy next door.
At twenty-eight, single-dad Jackson Montgomery’s life revolves around his five-year-old daughter and his job as a search-and-rescue pilot for the coast guard. He’s no stranger to saving a damsel in distress, and though his gorgeous new neighbor is clearly in distress, she’s no damsel. She’s stubborn as hell with walls a mile thick, and the dog tags hanging from her rearview mirror give him a pretty good clue as to why.
It doesn’t matter that their attraction is undeniable―she swore she’d never fall for another pilot, let alone a military man. There are some wounds time can’t heal, and some fears too consuming to conquer.
She’s a barely breathing heartbreak on the edge of recovery.
The Flight & Glory series is best enjoyed in order.

1. FANNY reviews for The Reality of Everything
4.5 Estrellas!!!
2. WENDYS reviews for The Reality of Everything
I absolutely love this series and I had no idea there was gonna be a fifth book. One day it just popped up on my feed and it was out already, so I didn’t even have to wait!! What more does a girl want?
As expected this book made me laugh, cry and swoon… as all this author’s books do. Deliciousness!!
This time we get Morgan’s story and it really broke my heart. But thankfully Rebecca has picked an awesome, hot single parent, alpha male pilot for Morgan, who mended both her and my heart… Jackson is definitely my number 1 Rebecca Yarros man now, and trust me beating Nova was not an easy feat!! Jackson though.. he hit it out of the park. He is all kinds of hot, protective, sweet, sexy. But most of all.. he is an amazing dad. And Morgan, she showed that she was stronger and more compassionate than she ever thought. My kind of girl!!
Definitely a 5 star read and I am actually sad I finished it so fast. That said… maybe it is time for a re-read. Since Sam is one of my favorite characters and she played a huge part in this book as well, I think I might start with her book first.
3. LAURA reviews for The Reality of Everything
***ARC Provided by the Author***
Whew.
This was my first title by Rebecca Yarros and I’m torn between needing to read everything she’s ever written and needing a break because, wow.
Jackson and Morgan’s story isn’t simple. It’s not easy. There are ghosts from her past who aren’t quite as much in the past as they should be and Jackson is both along for the ride and the new love interest she’s afraid to love and lose.
All of that is in the blurb. But what isn’t in it is how much you relate to these characters, how much you feel what they are feeling and how genuinely emotional the story is…at least I wasn’t expecting it.
My heart broke for Jackson, and for Morgan. There was more than one time where it jumped in my chest from the emotion of a line of dialogue or description.
I never highlight books, well, rarely. But this line
“I’m not about to be one of your regrets when I have the option to be your choice”
was perfect. It grabbed me and I was already hooked at that point and on these characters, but this cemented it… And is kind of a sum up of the entire book.
I could go on for days about how much I loved this, but it’s one of those you need to read for yourself.
I enjoyed and recommend this title.
4. EVA reviews for The Reality of Everything
An emotional and heart-wrenching story 🫶.
It follows Morgan, still reeling from the loss of her first love, as she struggles to rebuild her life in the coastal town of Emerald Cove. When she meets Jackson, a helicopter pilot with his own emotional scars, sparks fly despite their reluctance to open up to love again.
It balances romance with grief and healing, making Morgan and Jackson’s journey feel deeply authentic. The themes of loss, hope, and resilience are poignant. The story tugs at the heartstrings but leaves room for hope and second chances, making it a satisfying, moving read.
I loved this book! It was so touching, sweet, and beautifully written 👌

6. AJ reviews for The Reality of Everything
Holy freaking feels, I love this book! A beautiful story that is heartwrenching, intense and stunningly romantic, and an emotional journey for a woman fighting to claim back her life following a devastating loss. This book made me feel so much, mostly it made me fall in mad love with a gorgeous love story, and it’s going down as a fave for 2020!
This is the final book in the Flight & Glory series, and it revolves around a traumatic event that took place earlier in the series. If you haven’t read the earlier books, you may find yourself a little bit lost – things are explained, but not until later in the book – and the premise of this book alone is a massive spoiler for earlier books in the series, so just beware. And of course, this review will be a bit spoilery for the other books.
This is Morgan’s story. She’s been in the background of the previous books – she’s the best friend of Paisley (from book #2, Eyes Turned Skyward), but this book introduces us to a whole new Morgan as, left shattered by the death of the man she loves, she has packed up her life and moved to the Outer Banks. It’s been two years since Will’s death, and Morgan is still struggling to cope with her grief and the crippling anxiety attacks that hit without warning. So, she eagerly dives into renovating her new place on the beach, and sets herself up with a therapist who puts her on an intense program to help her get her life back.
The complication she wasn’t expecting is her jaw-droppingly gorgeous neighbour, Jackson. The sexy single father to a five-year-old little girl is immediately attracted to Morgan, and though their first few encounters are more humiliating than flirtatious, and he can recognise that she’s clearly struggling with something, he finds himself drawn more and more to her and sets about becoming a part of her life.
This is such a beautiful romance! Morgan is in no way ready for a relationship, and Jackson recognises and respects that, yet he begins to slowly woo her – letting her know that he’s there for her and helping her to spread her wings a bit, but in no way pressuring her into anything. He is sweet, caring and understanding, and Morgan is stunned to find herself feeling something for him.
It’s a difficult situation for Morgan as she grieves one man while falling for another, especially when she learns that Jackson is a rescue pilot with the Coastguard – another military flyboy whose job puts him in danger every day. I could absolutely understand her fear and reluctance, but through it all, they are open and honest about what they are feeling, and it’s beautifully functional as they slowly work through it all.
Oh my God, Jackson! I could have highlighted everything single word that came out of that man’s mouth because he was just perfection! He’s an absolute sweetheart with a seriously sexy side, but it’s his big heart and his epic declarations that had me falling madly for him.
Their developing romance plays out alongside Morgan’s recovery, which is just heartwrenching. It’s a complicated situation that she’s in, and I so respected her strength in pushing forward to make herself better. The rest of the Flight & Glory crew are a part of her journey, and oh, holy hell, the intensity of those scenes just about wrecked me! Beautifully written and stunningly emotional, it was just amazing, and I was silently cheering her on as she fought hard and took those important steps in claiming back her life.
But right when things seem to be finally getting on track, Morgan’s world is pulled out from under her again. Again, it’s emotional, again, I could understand what she was feeling, and again, Jackson is pure perfection. It’s a gutwrenching and thrilling climax to the story, and my heart was pounding as I read, desperate to see how it was all going to work out. And it was absolutely everything that I could have wanted.
This book completely captivated me. It’s a long read, but from start to finish, I was right on board and feeling it all. The love story stole my heart, as did Jackson’s little daughter, Finley, who absolutely shines in every scene that she’s in, and I loved these characters and their story so, so much.
It’s a beautiful book, full of feels, and an amazing read.
5 huge stars!
7. CVZ reviews for The Reality of Everything
Ms. Yarros’ final installment in the Flight & Glory Series addresses a familiar trope… the pain of loss and the emotional struggles in giving in to the love felt for a man with a career of service that puts him in harms way.
In this story Morgan’s “complicated grief” over the loss of Will, has her attempting to deny the chemistry she develops with her neighbor, Jackson Montgomery, a Coast Guard Search & Rescue Pilot.
This is a beautifully written story, emotionally charged and inundated with many tender, passionate, and heartwarming dialogue. All the while reading this book, I kept thinking how fortunate Morgan was to have such an understanding and loving man in her life. He wanted her despite the fact that she struggled with grief from a previous relationship. His patience, love, and compassion were truly priceless.
I loved the secondary characters in this book. Jackson’s daughter Finley was a real joy and Claire, Finley’s mother, reminded us that not all woman have selfless maternal instincts. This story did not have many angsty moments until the climax. Very well written scenario that truly created a movie for the mind’s eye! I would have loved to have read a few more detailed rescue missions throughout the book after the adrenaline rush created by that scenario!
The conclusion was predictable and satisfying. The Audible companion was well narrated. I have to say that this was an enjoyable series, which definitely needs to be read in order.
Thank you Rebecca Yarros!
8. CARMEN RAE reviews for The Reality of Everything
It feels like a lifetime ago that I picked up the first Flight and Glory series and fell in love with Rebecca Yarros’s writing. And I have read every book as she has written them. She is right at the top of my one click authors list. But for some weird, me, reason I wasn’t able to read Hallowed Ground. It had been so long since I had read the first book and I felt like I would need to do a series re-read and I just haven’t had the emotional fortitude or alone time to do it.
But when I found out this one was being released and I ascertained it could be read as a standalone I was all in. And a stay in a 5 star resort with no kids and a few cocktails absolutely helped. First I need to say that I adore Rebecca Yarros, I truly believe that there isn’t another author who gives every word the weight she does. But oh my god does it take her long enough to write them. Seriously. Although, now I need to do a series re-read because I HAVE to read Hallowed Ground even though I am already destroyed from the events that occurred in it to form this one.
I guess for now I should actually address Morgan and Jackson and how absolute beautiful, painful, devastating and awe inspiring their story was. I am lying here at 4am after not having been able to put the book down from the second I started it. The book gave me all the feels and then some. I am still feeling Morgan’s pain and the strength it took to put herself back together. Jackson was beyond perfect.
The whole story was amazing and I am so glad that I had the opportunity to read it when I could lie in bed sobbing like a baby with no distractions. And now I have to try get some sleep with a book hangover I’m going to be feeling for days. This book is one of my 2020 favourite reads but I highly recommend going in with a full box of tissues and an emotional support animal.
9. BIG JOE ROSSI reviews for The Reality of Everything
The Reality of Everything by Rebecca Yarros is a definite must-read! Great storyline, characters and the ending literally had me on edge of my chair, heart racing, sweating it out with our characters!
Two years ago Morgan lost the love of her life, it was complicated, but it destroyed her. Now, she has moved away from her home, her friends in hopes of finding herself again. Jackson is stunned when he first sees her on the beach, her beauty breathtaking to him, but he also sees the darkness in her eyes which only increases his interest. A single dad to five-year-old Finley he is all about no entanglement, content with one night hook ups with tourist.
These two start as friends but the pull is too strong. Even with her issues and his self-imposed rules concerned around his daughter’s happiness. They inevitably grow closer but see she is fighting the loss of her ex, his dying nearly killed her and her heart is shattered even still. He has his daughter, his rules, an ex in her on world, and a secret that may destroy her and their chance at happiness.
This book was great. Deep, well-built characters, a great storyline with cool little twist and turns. I loved it.
10. SNOW reviews for The Reality of Everything
well, screw it all…LMAO, but DAMN, when you read about a hero like Jackson Montgomery, you know that it’s a bloody fantastic fiction, cause he’s too damn good too be true…LOL
There…honest to God, perfection…
To second that, this book deals with deep issues, like emotional grief, and the ways to deal with it, and the coping mechanisms…it’s actually portrayed and described in such a profound and very detailed way…it was truly introspective and beautiful to experience through these characters…
But I repeat – Jackson Montgomery!
III. The Reality of Everything Quotes
The best book quotes from The Reality of Everything by Rebecca Yarros
“But she’s also too important, too unique, and too beautiful to stand by and do nothing while she drowns. While she might look delicate, she’s actually incredibly strong and capable of taking a storm or two.”
“Your grief for Will is just as deep as your love, and that’s not something to be ashamed of. I’m so damned proud to be your friend.”
“I choose you. And if I have to let you lose me so you can save yourself, then I’ll hold on enough for the both of us. That’s how much I love you.”
“I want you in a way that keeps me up at night, mentally calculating the steps between my door and yours. I want you so badly that I barely stop myself from taking those steps every single night.”
“You might preach you’re a mess, but I think you’re pretty fucking perfect, wreckage and all.”
“I’m going to love you so well that you’ll never doubt that I choose you. Every day. Every situation. I choose you”.”
“God, I didn’t deserve this man who held me carefully as I cried out my grief for another.”
“I think I’m falling for you.” …
The look he gave me was so tender, it made my eyes burn. “I don’t need to think. I already know. I’m just glad you’re catching up, because I am so far gone for you that I can’t even see the shore anymore.”“I’ve waited my entire life to love you, Morgan. Everything that came before was just to prepare me for your arrival, to teach me how to love you.”
“You don’t want this,” I told him softly…
“I don’t want what?” he questioned, lowering his head until our foreheads touched. “Because you can’t tell me that I don’t want you.”“You’re loved, Morgan, whether or not you want to be. But please give me the chance to show you how much.”
“I don’t want to feel like this anymore.” Her eyes filled with tears, and I pulled her into my arms, resting my chin on her head as she cried into my chest.
“I know you don’t.”
“I want to be happy and to have a heart that’s worth risking. I miss my friends. I miss him, but then there’s you, and I want to be ready for whatever this is, and it all just jumbles in my head.” Her sob shook her shoulders.
“I’ll wait for as long as you need me to,” I promised her again. “You don’t have to factor me in to your healing. I’m not going anywhere.”“The way I feel about you scares the shit out of me, but that’s what tells me it’s real.”
“It was twenty-five hundred square feet, had been in my price range, and felt like I did—weathered, beaten, and broken in ways that needed more than just a coat of paint.”
“Complicated grief happens when your rational mind has accepted the loss, but your emotional mind hasn’t quite gotten there. It keeps you stuck in that first, sharp, acute stage of grief and doesn’t let you move forward.”
“I see you everywhere, in the stars, in the river; to me you’re everything that exists; the reality of everything.”
“I’m going to love you so well that you’ll never doubt that I choose you. Every day. Every situation. I choose you.”
“me you’re everything that exists; the reality of everything.”
